When a draw feels like a win

Posted in Manchester City, sport on December 30, 2008 by laurawolfe

I have to comment on Manchester City’s result yesterday.  I am always quick to criticise, so a few positive words would be appropriate I feel.

Following our trouncing of Hull on Boxing Day, which incidentally I missed as I thought I should be home with the family that day- (We always win big when I am not there – perhaps I should just stay away!) – I had high hopes for the Blackburn game.

At 86 minutes and 2-0 down, it seemed all was lost – how wrong I was!  How can a draw feel like a win?  A fellow blogger puts it very well here.  Sorry Michael, but all is fair in love, war and football!

Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play

We took Natan to see “Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play” at the Dancehouse yesterday.

What a welcome change in a world of Power Rangers and Spiderman.  Proper age-appropriate entertainment and a wonderful show for all the family to enjoy.  It was beautifully put together and a joy to watch.  I can highly recommend it.  Natan loved it.

It’s on until 4th January – go and see it.  You can buy tickets here.

RIP Woolworths

I went to Woolworths today.  I came out with all sorts of discounted stuff. It was so sad though and my bargains were bitter sweet.

What an awful sign of the times.  I couldn’t help but think about the history of the brand and how sad it is that it could not have been saved.

The staff were all amazingly helpful and polite, which was a credit to the Woolworths name.

Good luck to all.  I hope that the New Year brings some better times, but I fear not.

Seasons Greetings to all

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and Seasons Greetings to all.

We’ve had a lovely festive season so far, and I am looking forward to more festivities to come.

Natan gets to celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas and has been spoilt rotten - our house looks like a toy shop!  Where I am going to put it all is anyone’s guess!

December madness

I know I’ve been rubbish of late.  I will try to rectify this for the rest of the year, what’s left of it.  It’s just been a mad month and I’ve had little sleep.

I finished work today until the New Year.  I don’t think that I’ve ever needed a break more.  Work has pretty much taken over my life this year.

So, what’s been going on in the world then?  In no particular order:

Man City look set to be the richest team in the world in the Championship next season.  Okay, okay, unlikely I know, but roll on the January transfer window.  I am all for giving people a chance, but is Mark Hughes really the man to lead us to honours in Europe and at home?  I fear not.

Woolworths – a national institution and one of my favourite shops as a child – has become a victim of the credit crunch.  Unbelievable, but true.

Mugabe is still mad.  Someone please stop him.  People are dying.  Children are suffering.

Manchester voted ‘No’.

Natan is three, going on thirteen.

More soon…
